Wearable Design Reflection

China Pavilion

My mask, more like a hat, was inspired by the China Pavilion in Shanghai established in 2010 for the World Expo. When I visited the China Pavilion in 2010 as a high school student, I was struck by the magnificent red building.

The bottom is supported by four large pillars that hold up the building above. In the middle of the pillars is a movable square. Although the exterior is a block stacking structure, the interior is a large hollow space. A crown form is built by stacking and splicing the wood in the wooden structure commonly used in ancient Chinese architecture, symbolizing the traditional Chinese vessels, tripod and crown. The use of four kinds of traditional Chinese red color also highlights the characteristics of Chinese architecture.

I made my model into a real wearable crown. I folded red cardboard into long strips and glued them together to a complete form. The length from the top to the bottom was reduced to form an inverted trapezoid structure. The top and bottom are reinforced with thick cardboard and finally the support for the head is made wearable. The overall structure is very neatly stacked blocks.

I love playing with Lego, puzzles and blocks. In my short time of studying interior design, I like different types of blocks that join、overlap or repeat to form multiple shape and create space. In the future, I want to build the required space by using different forms of blocks.
